Pandemic Pull Up Bar

My backyard pull-up bar was another another consequence of covid-19 fueled by my desire to exercise. The pandemic restrictions set in Ontario were extremely strict and all non-essential businesses including gyms and restaurants were forced to close.

I wanted to stay active and keep exercising. So, I decided having a pull up bar was an essential.

I browsed online to see existing options but they all shared two common issues. First, they did not look structurally sound, and second, they were not tall enough for me to use without having my feet touch the ground.

I decided to build it out of 2.x4’s, 2x6’s and a steel pipe, which I inherited from a coworker, to keep the cost down. The bar was designed to be tall enough to keep my feet off the ground. The entire structure was designed in solidworks late one evening and built on a Sunday afternoon.

I used the pullup nearly everyday even during the winter when it was -20c out.

The coworker who gave me the steel pipe ended up inheriting the pull-up bar when I moved out.
