Settlers of Catan - Waterloo Edition

I really enjoy playing Settlers of Catan and the University of Waterloo had recently opened up a makerspace for students. So, I decided to make use of the resources and create a custom version of the game out of plywood.

The Settlers of Catan Waterloo edition, a.k.a Innovators of Waterloo, includes revised resources, development cards, a game box, and custom game tiles which feature icons from the city of Waterloo. The game and box were first carefully planned out with free hand sketches which were then translated into Solidworks CAD. Once all the CAD and drawings were complete they were converted into DWG files for the laser cutter.

Overall, the project took about a month total to complete. Many long days were spent designing, laser cutting, sanding, gluing, painting and finishing. Next, custom game cards were printed on for an improved playing experience.
